Chalk

Chalk
Like words
Is impermanent
It leaves a mark
Soon erased by time and rain

Love notes
Like water activated tattoos
The tramp stamp is temporary

Is this fortune or misfortune?

The words you treasure from “the one”
May mean nothing in their heart
When the war is done

Does fortune favor the weak?
When words that defiled
Are razed to rubble
Through the recycling of memories?

An Evening

A chilly evening
A no kids calling evening
A missing you evening
Like every other
Yet a standout evening

A one text evening
A song sending evening
A year ending evening
Just like the rest
Yet a beginning evening

A cave painting evening
A dish washing evening
A coffee drinking evening
Just like the mornings
A friend proving evening

A spirit centering evening
A song in the field evening
A starry picnic table evening
Like so many others
Yet a back to basics evening

Soul-tired

Soul-tired

Yes, there is lack of sleep
But this is an absence of rest
No actuality of respite
And no omens of relief

Pillow
Heart pounding
Wheel
Heart pounding
Inhaling
Heart pounding
Exhaling
Heart pounding
Living
Heart pounding

The smallest bullets
The effect of a mortar
The shortest words
The impact of a paragraph

I have a quiet strength
Externally
I have the loudest din
Internally

Soul-tired
